Snapdragon & MediaTek are now focusing on powering Cars
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform has made significant strides in the automotive sector. It is now a key player in supporting software defined vehicles (SDVs) and new in car experiences. At CES 2025, Qualcomm announced major partnerships with leading automakers like Leapmotor, Mahindra, and Hyundai Mobis . They are all adopting the Snapdragon Digital Chassis for better connectivity, infotainment, and driving automation features[2]. The Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC is in use through collaborations, such as with Tata Elxsi, to speed up the development of virtual electronic control units (ECUs) and cloud based automotive applications. This allows for quicker, more scalable vehicle software development and real time updates.
Key areas of Snapdragon's focus in the auto sector include:
Cockpit platforms for next gen infotainment, safety, and 3D UIs
AI driven, context aware interfaces and smart vehicle automation capabilities
Cloud connectivity for over the air (OTA) updates and remote diagnostics
MediaTek is also shifting towards automotive; however, the provided results did not specify their activities. Based on current industry knowledge, MediaTek has introduced its Dimensity Auto platform . This platform focuses on smart cockpit, infotainment, and connectivity solutions for vehicles, competing directly with Snapdragon’s products. Like Qualcomm, MediaTek highlights scalable, high performance processors that support AI, seamless connectivity, and advanced multimedia experiences for modern cars.
The entry of mobile chipset leaders like Snapdragon and MediaTek into the automotive space shows a larger industry trend. Now, car performance, features, and user experience rely heavily on digital and cloud enabled platforms rather than just mechanical engineering. This shift aims to make vehicles smarter, safer, more connected, and continuously upgradable throughout their lifespan.
