Xiaomi has officially unveiled its self-developed chip, the Xuanjie O1!
After a decade of dedicated research and development, Xiaomi’s chip manufacturing ambitions have finally come to fruition. With this breakthrough, Xiaomi joins an elite group-becoming one of only four smartphone brands in the world, and just the second in China, alongside Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, to possess core self-developed chips. This achievement cements Xiaomi’s status as a T0-level technology brand.
The Xuanjie O1 leverages cutting-edge 5nm technology, marking a significant milestone in domestic advanced chip design. From earlier innovations like the Pengpai S1, P1, C1, G1, and T1, to today’s flagship application processor, Xiaomi’s chipmaking journey has been challenging yet inspiring. As the Chinese semiconductor industry continues to evolve, the need for more pioneering players is greater than ever.
Key Features of the Xiaomi Xuanjie O1 Chip
Advanced Manufacturing Process
Built using TSMC’s advanced 3nm or 4nm/5nm process node, placing it among the most cutting edge chips in the smartphone industry.
CPU Architecture
Utilizes a tri cluster CPU design:
1 high performance Arm Cortex X925 core (up to 3.2 GHz)
3 Cortex A725 performance cores (2.5–2.6 GHz)
4 energy efficient Cortex A520 or Cortex A55 cores (2.0 GHz).
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
Equipped with the Imagination DXT72 2304 or IMG DXT 72 GPU, running at up to 1.3 GHz, delivering flagship level graphics performance.
Performance
Expected to offer performance comparable to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, positioning it in the flagship segment.
Connectivity
Does not feature an integrated 5G modem; instead, it relies on an external 5G modem, potentially sourced from MediaTek, Unisoc, or Qualcomm.
System on Chip (SoC) Integration
Integrates multiple modules, including CPU, GPU, DSP, RAM, modem, and navigation, enabling comprehensive smartphone functionality in a compact design.
Strategic Importance
Represents Xiaomi’s renewed commitment to in house chip design, aiming to reduce dependence on third party suppliers and strengthen technological independence.
First Devices
Expected to debut in upcoming flagship models like the Xiaomi 15S Pro or Civi 5 Pro, though official device confirmation is pending.
