You can help planet Earth right now
There is only one Earth. Billions of people have only one place they can call home. In this entire Universe there is no other planet like ours which can sustain life. Scientists have been trying since ages to look for a new planet in the great wide out there with some resemblance to our Earth’s eco-system. A planet where life can thrive so that the increasing burden of a booming population, pollution and depleting resources on Earth can be managed.
There are only so many resources and only so much our planet can endure. Scientists, think tanks and environmentalists are now trying to come up with ways through which we can heal the Earth slowly. Here are some ways that we can play a part in slowing down the negative imprint we are all collectively leaving on our planet.
Repurposing plastic bottles
Plastic, as we know it, has existed for only 60-70 years but in that time it has completely changed our lives. We use plastic in our kitchens, bathrooms, grocery markets, industries and almost every walk of life. The thing about plastic is that it is meant to last for a very long time. Nearly all the plastic that has ever been produced still exists to date in some form. Plastic water and drink bottles are the most common type of plastic waste and contribute greatly to land as well as water pollution. Think about repurposing your plastic bottles around the house or keeping them aside for recycling.
Sneakers made from ocean trash
Acting responsibly, Adidas along with Parley for the oceans, gathered up plastic trash from ocean and produced high-performance sportswear from it. The idea has been extremely successful and has been very well received by customers as well as environmentalists. Here is a complete look at this collection.
Bio-degradable plant-based plastic
A startup company Avani from Bali, Indonesia is aiming to replace plastic with materials made from plant-based resources. The cups in the picture above have been made from FSC certified paper and cornstarch and while they will hold your coffee and beverages they will also be fully compostable after some time.
Wrap your food without hurting the environment
Instead of using aluminum foil, paper bags or cling film to wrap your food Bee’s Wrap has come with a solution to reduce this type of waste. The food wraps created by this company are made of cotton, jojoba oil, beeswax and tree resin. Bonus point? These wraps are reusable! Just wash them and they are good to go again.
Leather made out of banana leaves
Banana trees die giving way to younger stems after being harvested. Instead of all this resource going to waste Green Banana Paper offers a solution that is sustainable and quite unique. The company offers ‘leather’ wallets and paper made out of banana fiber.
Grow a tree after you die
Capsula Mundi is company concerned with deforestation. They have offered a unique and sensitive approach to saving our forests. But to be able to that you have to die first. They offer an egg-shaped coffin which is made of bio-degrdable materials. The idea is that when a person dies, they are buried in that coffin with a tree planted right above it. The coffin degrades in time and the family takes care of the growing tree over time.
